Mt Kosciuszko, 2228 m

I did the walk up to the summit from Thredbo, which has the longest ski runs in Australia. The town is located 1365 meter above sea level. You can take a share lift from there up to the Eagle nest about 1930 m.

But I would recommend to do the walk up there instead, otherwise it would not be much of climbing left to do the summit.
I started the walk 11.30 which might be a bit late if you are walking both up and down. I followed the Merrits Nature track which begins next to the tennis court in Thredbo. All the track is very well signposted and easy to follow. Really don't need a map or anything. The track is well maintained too. Some parts of it are stairs and the steps are quite high. The total ascent is about 600 in 4 km of walks. So is fairly steep. You walk through bush land and near a river. So the walks is very nice and scenic. Because it's mostly bush land you also can get shade if it's a sunny day.
When you walked a bit there is some tables and benches where you can rest and admire the views.

I did the walk up to where the lifts end in about 1 and a half hour (including stops for lunch and photos).

Once up on the Eagle nest you continue on the Mt Kosciuszko summit walk. About 6,5 km each way. It is a built up steel walkway so very easy walk and no orientering skill needed:) It's just to stay on the track.
It's not the most exciting walk on the metal walkway but I understand why the built it. And it saves your feet from getting muddy or wet. I did the walk early in November and you could then still see the snow and you had also a couple of hundred meters where you walked over some snow fields.

I started the walk late so only met people on their way back from the summit, some school classes but except from that it were not many walkers.

Getting nearer the summit
The summit is 2228 m above sea level and the mountain is named after a Polish freedom fighter. I got up there at 13.50 Had some upset stomach so the walk up from Eagle nest was a bit uncomfortable and slower. Nothing serious more just annoying. There are toilets at 2000 m so it's really a supported walk.
I had about 15 - 20 minutes alone on the top before another walker joined me. View are alright, but nothing like being up on a higher mountain. It's more the feeling of being on top of the continent that is special.

Walk down is easier, if you back at the lifts before 4.30 pm you can save 600 m of descent. Otherwise just walk back same way. Got back in Thredbo at 17.50 and could feel it in my legs then that I had done around 20 km and 1000 vertical meters up and down.

A sun hat can be good for sunny days, wind jacket/rainjacket, sun glasses, some good walking shoes, drinking water and some snack. Don't forget to cut the toe nails and tie the shoe laces tight, could save your from some pain the next days:)
