Monthly statistics

9/27/2013

We have just completed our first month of cycling in Australia and here are some statistics.

Trip distance: 1393 km
Ride time: 103 hours
Avg speed: 13.63 (travel on minor roads so pace is slow, two days of pushing the bikes on the Womerah range trail also contributes to the slow speed).

Bicycle problems: Break of chain. Also replaced front chain rings in Tamworth, Phim had a 22 and 32 teeth chain rings fitted, and I had a 22 chain ring fitted. Gave us a very much notable improvement in climbing power:)
Flat tires: 0
Number of times to pump tires: 0 (filled the tires to max pressure in Sydney and they have stayed that way so far).

Rainy days: 1

Camping:
Hosted by invitation : 4 nights
Couch surfing/Warm showers: 1
Paying camp sites: 3 (total AUD 54, (25 + 15 +14))
Wild camping/ free camp sites: 27

Animals seen, (the alive ones, not all the road kills we seen or smelled..)
Kangaroos,
Wallabies
Fox
Hare/rabbit
Brown snakes
And a lot of different birds.

Hi Fredrik and Phim, I stumbled upon your blog in google by accident while trying to establish the cycle 'friendliness' of Putty Road, as from memory it was winding and quite narrow in places. Anyway, I have read about your progress up to date with great interest, more so after recently visiting Sweden for the first time. Look forward to next updates, especially from Tasmania, my favorite part of Australia. Have a safe trip, keep pedaling and posting. Cheers.

Hi Michael,
Glad to hear you liked the blog. I'm terrible behind schedule to update it but hope to catch up,,,,asap. facebook is more up to date as it's easier on the road..

Putty road I would say was quite bicycle friendly, Not much traffic at all on the road once you got up a bit north on the road. Don't remember that I thought of it as narrow. My biggest memory is how isolated it was so close to Sydney. Not many houses a long the road. Were about +40 and +60 km between the places you could refill water (if used cafe etc.) were some creeks with little water but we never used it.

The road was not so much up and down too.

Sweden is a nice country to cycle in. Very easy find a place to camp. Not so much fences a long the road as we found here in NSW. So easy just to get off the roads to camp etc.

cheers
fredrik
